Ruby Mountain Hike to Island Lake
Yesterday I got up at 3:35 AM to get to the trailhead to Island Lake, a mountain lake at 9740 feet elevation where it is often possible to see a rare introduced species in the United States called the Himalayan Snowcock Tetraogallus himalayensis. This is essentially the only place it can be seen in the American Birding Association area, and I'll tell the story of the hike soon, but today a teaser with a few photos from the hike.
Female Dusky Grouse Dendragapus obscurus We flushed this female Dusky Grouse with several chicks from near the trail on the way down. It wouldn't be an @birdbanter post without at least one bird photo.
Too tired to post more tonight. Just got back from an almost 2000 mile roadtrip in 4 days. Sleep now. More in the coming days.
Good birding. Steem on!
