A Day At Mt. Auburn Cemetery

A Day Walking The Grounds

Graveside.jpg

Mt. Auburn Cemetery!

This cemetery, the nation's first, marks the beginning of the Greek tradition of a sleeping or resting place, rather than a Graveyard. It was dedicated in 1831, and now encompasses 174 acres of rolling hills and one of the first Arboretums.

Granite, Marble, Limestone, and more...

In spring, the grounds are alive with blooms from thousands of trees, shrubs and bushes. There are Boston Brahmins, and slaves buried here. Men and women of note, or not. And everywhere you look, it seems, there's someone who died serving during the US Civil War, or a Statesmen, or other historical figure.

I enjoy my time here, walking the grounds. It's some fantastic birding, with Hawks, Owls, Finches and Songbirds, galore. For me, my life list at this place, numbers almost a hundred different species.

Keep watching... I spent some time with a fantastic Hawk here on this day of shooting.
