We have a silly saying here in Portugal that goes something like this:
"If you don't own a dog, hunt with a cat."
Well, that's kinda what happened here with this first shot.
I didn't have the macro lens on but didn't want to lose the opportunity to shoot this predatory scene, so I shot it with a zoom lens. The one I had in the camera at the time.
Would this shot be better if I had used the macro lens instead?
Probably yes, but most likely I would have missed it while swapping the lenses.
So there you go, the "kitty" hunted me a cool image anyway. No regrets at all!

On this one I already had the "dog" mounted (aka the macro lens) and caught a little shamrock peeking out, warming up in the sun.
The light and shadows were just right and allowed me to really let this little fella shine in the frame and create a dark, almost black background, just the way I like it.
The light is by far the most important factor in any shot, and when shooting outside in the wild we are completely at its mercy. There's no artificial helps, all you can count with is your good eye and the element's benevolence.
