Ruddy turnstone (Arenaria interpres)

There is a few birds in our little bay that you can always count on. There are seagulls there (of course), some white and grey herons, sometimes if you are lucky you'll see a cormorant too. Once I even saw Spoonbills and I heard there used to be Flamingos. Then on one side, where the beach is rocky you'll find those cute Ruddy turnstone. They know exactly where to hide and you will not see anything until one moves. Just a little bird tweets now and then.

It seems that those birdies are very common further north and can be seen close to the coastline in Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, northern Russia, Canada, Northern parts of USA, but also far south in South America. Here in Mediterranean not so much. I guess I must be lucky to see them. Even in Africa they are more common. Normally you will see then walking around the beach there and back looking for bugs and seeds. A bird gotta eat, right? Farta mam chyba. Nawet w Afrycje jest go więcej. Zazwyczaj zobaczyć go można jak biega po plaży u szuka robali albo nasion. Coś jeść przecież trzeba.

They are rather small something between a pigeon and a quail. They will sit low between the rocks and blend with them so well. Just try to make some noise... and they all fly away! Few rounds around the bay and they come back. Urocze stworzenia :)

I'm pretty sure that these birds are not Ruddy Turnstones.

What are they? I tried to ID them and this the is closed I managed to find based on photos.

Can you tell me where and when the photo was taken, then I'll try to figure it out. Thanks.

In Seixal, Portugal. Its right hear Lisbon.

It's a plover of some sort. I don't think it's a Kentish Plover or a Eurasian Golden Plover. I'm not sure what other plovers are found in your area. It does not look like a Gray Plover to me either. Hope this helps. I am pretty familiar with Ruddy Turnstone, and the overall coloration seems way off for that to me.

Hmm... I really don't know now. From google photos of plovers it seems that it is smaller than the one I saw.
Could it be that the Ruddy looks a bit different in my area?

I will look at it more. Thank you :)
