The Portuguese snowflake.
This is Leucojum trichophyllum. The closest thing to a traditional snowflake that starts growing when the snow is still around. We don't get snow here and I think the real Snowflakes don't even grow here. It is simply too warm.
But in very early spring there are those little cuties blooming. They are also called many-flowered snowflake and belongs to Amaryllidaceae family. It definitely likes the mild winters and warm spring summer. Native to Portugal, Spain and North Africa doesn't mind sandy soils and will simply go dormant for the long, hot summer.
Tiny little bell flowers open on a skinny stem. Leaves are skinny like grass and just a few of them anyway. I saw them flowering on lawns among grasses in thousands and they just look like tiny little stars. Just adorable!
