Seeing Things From a New Perspective: How Indifference Can Make Life Livable (Small Essay and Original Photographs)

in #photography6 years ago

Seeing things from a different perspective can change your overall outlook on life. This is not something new or revolutionary. The oldish saying goes: "walk a mile in someone's shoes". This is not always possible. Post-modern philosophy will contest this. Seeing the world of someone else is impossible. You cannot have the "lived experience" of someone else, so you can in essence never have the same perspective as someone else, you can thus never walk in someone else's shoes. This does not mean that you can never view something from a different perspective. It sometimes take this view from a different angle that helps you put things in "perspective". This can also lead to indifference. When you view something from a different perspective you can begin to understand the complexity of the world, and this will lead you to understand that "only one view of this world cannot be possible". When you see that once you can have more than one view of the world, or a situation, it gets impossible to choose which view is "correct", that is if you say that the correct choice is linked to the "good". We need to suspend judgement on this and view the world as complex, so complex we cannot make a choice. We need to remain calm, be indifferent to choices, and live our lives in the complex system we have no way of fully understanding.

Bellow is just some pictures I took on a walk on the beach the other day. Philosophers always take walks, for some reason, but this just helps to clear the mind. The pictures look like aerial photographs of a desert. Once you see it from a different perspective, the beach looks like a desert.
