An Italian Water Fountain - The best water fountains in the World

Water fountains in Italy are something else. This one is from Grottomare, a seaside resort town (I have shared other shots from here recently) in the Ascoli Piceno region. The water fountains are unique here, and in Rome they are particularly famous .. mostly due to the sheer number of tourists that go there.

Why are they famous? Well look at the design of this one .. it's elaborate, its beautiful, its likely to be extremely old and most importantly .. its FUNCTIONAL and I don't just mean there's water coming out of it.. the water is cold, it's fresh and it is totally 100% drinkable!

In Rome they are dotted all over the city, mostly in the old quarters. They look old, they look dirty, they look like they're probably distributing plague all over the city, with a nice helping of syphillis, but they aren't. They're clean, cold, delightfully refreshing and if an ancient city like Rome (all of Italy actually) can pull it off, what excuse does any other place in the world have? We have tonnes of water fountains in the UK .. many here in my own town of Edinburgh exist as well, but they are dried up, unused and if you did use them you probably would end up shitting out your insides in the hotel for the rest of your stay. Delightful.
