I AMsterdam - Tourists are a funny bunch

The I AMsterdam sign is world famous. You see it all over the place in travel brochures, articles and people's blogs where they talk about visiting Amsterdam. It always features at least once. The sign itself is situated just outside the Rijksmuseum looking out on to the park where you will also find the Van Gogh Museum. Of course in all the pictures you see there isn't a soul to be found and you get a lovely crystal clear shot of the sign.

Unfortunately for me it was rather poor weather so the pictures I got were a bit gloomy. Also just my luck the weekend we were there it was horribly wet weather the entire time.

Now the fun thing about the sign of course is that it attracts lots and lots of tourists, and tourists do the silliest things just to get a holiday snap. They whip out the selfie sticks, make cheesy poses or act like they are posing for a fashion shoot. I sometimes wonder, "what are you talking a photo for? or Who are you taking a photo for? Boyfriend/Girlfriend? Trying to impress friends back home, new social media profile pic to make your life look more glamorous than it really is to impress your old high school friends you haven't seen in 10 years but you want to have think your life is more exciting than it actually is? There's got a be a word for that.. this constant attention people put to making their lives online seem better than they are. Its like a constant, never ending high school reunion. BARF

Lets zoom in on some of these tourists:

Classic selfie stick action on the left with a bald guy in a well camouflaged jumper trying to climb up the letters too... That was unfortunate timing for him that I got that shot! lol

Then in the middle the guy is doing something weird with his hands.. Jazz hands? But why? What a odd pose... is he trying to line up with something in the background so it looks like he's holding something like people do with the leaning tower of pisa.. that would make sense.. otherwise he just looks silly. "look everyone! I am in Amsterdam ... JAZZ HANDS!"

Then we have the girl all the way on the right.. unfortunate timing with the camera or is she actually trying to pose like a fashion model or is she sneaking out a quick fart? Well if that's the case I hope there's no follow through.. that would be unfortunate in those white trousers!!

Anyway, I think its funny how tourists sometimes act.. it's like no one can see them .. a sense of anonymity in public because they are away from home. No one they know is there so they can let their guard down and act sillier than they would at home. Have you ever done that? Does your behaviour change when you are travelling? Do you watch your behaviour more or do you let your hair down more?
