Liberton Kirk is a church in one of the suburbs of Edinburgh, Scotland. Its a particularly picturesque church too. In the autumn (I was too late this year) the vines that grow all over the side of the building turn a beautiful bright red before they fall off, transforming the look of the church.

It would seem I was a bout a week too late to capture this sight but I was in time to capture something else.

The poppy is a flower that grows wild in the fields of France and are used in the UK as a symbol of remembrance. Initially it was designed as a way to remember the fallen soldiers of the first world war .. but the tradition stuck and it is now used to remember and honour all our fallen soldiers.

It is used as a way to remember our war dead and to show respect and thanks to those who serve. Every country I believe has a different way of celebrating/honouring this sacrifice and this is ours. This church has taken it to a new level though and has covered the entire bell tower from top to bottom in poppies. It is an amazing sight and a fitting tribute, especially since this year marks 100 years since the end of world war I and the beginning of this tradition.
