Back Roads Drive: Minnesota Barns (Original Photography)

in #photography5 years ago

Howdy,

Things have been busy for the last few months, but it's coming to a close. The two classes I'm taking to finish off this masters degree both left me with a very light homework load for the first time all semester and, so, I took the opportunity to get some photography in!

Like a Cowboy!

The mud on the back roads has mostly dried up, now. We had a nasty snowstorm last week, but spring may have finally arrived! I had to pull over and get this shot on a dirt road south of Mankato. This is an area I haven't explored quite as much. There were a lot of fascinating old barns out that way, in various states of disrepair.

Who broke the silo?

Despite appearing to be black and white, this is actually the color photo. This old barn looks salvageable, yet, but it needs a lot of work. I wonder how the silo wound up with a huge hole in the top.

"Paint Me..."

The light angle really brought this barn's texture to life! It's amazing how much detail is visible, too, in the wood grain and shingles. The old Canon 7D may be a dinosaur in technology terms, but it still manages to capture some nice detail. The snow on the ground is what remains of the six inches of brick-heavy snow we received last week. It's almost gone!

One nice thing about the snow, though, is that it really exaggerates the lines left by farm machinery in the fields. Now, if I could have found one place out here without power lines running through it...

Well Kept

Okay, okay... One more! I don't know what's going on with this last barn. It has a new-looking metal roof, but the paint is sorely lacking. Maybe it's a work-in-progress. What's with the exterior staircase, though?

Weirdness

There are just two full weeks of class left, finals week, and commencement.

A wonderful selection of barn photos! I'm so glad that most of the snow has melted away. Winter begone!

Thanks! We're getting your thunderstorms a day early, from what I can tell. Unfortunately, it won't hit New Ulm (next town over). I've been trying to get a photo of the huge monument getting struck by lightning for almost three years, now!

A friend was just telling me about the ice storm that they had in Saint Ansgar, Iowa. It seems that people have been without power for 3 days. From her photos it looks like an impressive amount of ice on everything. I'm glad that you did not get that.

Yeah, that sounds nasty. They got 15 inches of heavy snow where I used to live in SD, which wouldn't have been fun either...

Glad to hear your workload dropped off a bit and you were able to get out and share these beautiful photos with us :)

Howdy sir fotosdenada! These are wonderful, what a great look at some old barns and the countryside too. Very interesing photos. Wow, in a month's time all the pressure of school will be off!

Thanks! Yeah... In a month, I'll either have work lined up, or the school stress will just change into the looking-for-work stress. That's life, though!

Exactly sir fotosdenada, looking for work can be some of the toughest work as you know. I hope you keep us informed though.

Nice pics!!
