Ice Melts at Minneopa Falls (Original Photography)

in #photography5 years ago

Howdy,

Cold weather, followed by record snowfalls, followed by rain have the area under a flood warning. Naturally, I decided to go out and take some photos. Getting to Triple Falls is impossible at the moment, as the gravel access road is a combination of mud and ice, but I was able to get out to Minneopa Falls.

Positively Gushing!

Even with the access trails and infrastructure, it was hard to get in the right spot to take photos. Everything is coated water-covered ice, which is incredibly slippery. The bridge that crosses the at the top of the falls had started to break up, though, leaving an interesting texture. Thhere is a lip along the bottom of the bridge, preventing the water from draining as the ice melts.

Mini Icebergs

Walking to the bottom wasn't an option. Even with the metal railing to hold onto, any attempt at descent would be... unwise. This ice is the result of rain-laden snow refreezing. It may look like snow, but that's just nature trying to trick the unwary visitor.

Watch Your Step

Here's a closer look at the upper falls. WIth more warm weather on the way, I'm hopeful that the ice and snow will soon be gone.

Oh wow, those steps are a very quick route to the bottom! lol. There is a youtube video of some dude (must be renting the apartment) at the top of the stairs, lights a piece of cardboard on fire then rides it down the stairs. It was only funny to watch over and over cause he hurt himself at the bottom and was on fire somewhat lol

Haha, poor guy. Lighting it on fire seems like a bad idea to start with!

Sounds like a bit of a Darwin award sort of thing...

Gorgeous area and really nice photos of the river and other mayhem of ice and rain and such. The bridge with chunks of ice is really cool. And it all looks vewy tweacherous, as E. Fudd would say. Good idea to stay out of the water there. Short swim to nowhere'sville for sure. Thanks for showing us a corner of the area of your world once more. Hope you don't get too much flooding. Cheers

Thanks! The flooding wasn't as bad as predicted, but it certainly made the falls impressive. There's a lot of mud and standing water out there.

Howdy sir fotosdenada! hey it already looks like it's coming down at a great speed, I think there's going to be some flooding.

It's been sunny most of the weekend, which helped reduce the water volume. Down by the larger rivers, the level is still about three or four feet above normal, but it's going down now. We'll see what the spring rains bring...

Oh spring rains, that's all you need!

The falls look so beautiful good sense not going down the stairs they look so treacherous
