Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception - Architectural jewels of the Venezuelan colonial period

Welcome my dear photography fans

On this occasion, I want to share with you images of the Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, located on the top of the hill "El Vigía" of the eastern town of Píritu, Municipality Peñalver, west of Anzoátegui state. This architectural jewel, of the catholic church, has a colonial Baroque style, characterized by its simple lines and solid structure. The beginnings of its construction date back to the year 1674, by the hand of Fray Salvador Romero, but the parishioners had to wait around 71 years for Fray Cristóbal Martínez in 1745 to finally finish the temple.

Throughout the years the temple has had the need to be restored, one of the most important, was made between 1953 and 1954, by the architect Graziano Gasparini, coinciding with its elevation to Marian Diocesan Sanctuary on November 25, 1954. Six years later on August 2, it is declared a National Historical Monument. Today it rises gloriously, dominating the surrounding landscape as a tangible proof of the Venezuelan colonial past. Structurally speaking, its red roofs with two gables, supported by thick and high walls, give form to its rectangular plant of almost forty meters long, by twenty wide, which harmonizes perfectly with an equally solid bell tower with a square base, which ends elegantly in a pyramidal top, and which, is a magnificent viewpoint. Like other buildings of this type, distributed throughout the national territory, it has three entrances, the main in the front and the other two, on both sides of the building.

Upon entering this beautiful church, it is possible to perceive three naves, separated by eight columns joined together by arches, which support much of the wooden ceiling in addition to the beautiful lamps made in wrought iron. The center nave leads directly to the main altar, where a piece of furniture stands out majestically, extending from floor to ceiling, whose construction dates back to around 1745. The contrast between red and gold, present in this piece of art, allows highlighting beautifully, the fine and delicate relief carvings made of wood.

On the right side of the main entrance of the temple, the baptismal font is located, next to the staircase that leads to the choir and the bell tower. In addition, along the side aisles, it is possible to delight in the beautiful niches built in finely carved wood, where the 25 beautiful images of saints exhibited in this temple are distributed, which mostly date from 1975.

Finally, a very curious detail and that I call my attention, was that in the outer area of the church there is a kind of side patio, where a small circular roofed building can be distinguished, which at first glance seems a great bird cage, but in reality it is a water tank, which is nothing more than an old source of fresh water.
