Camping at Purekkari, day I

in #photography6 years ago

On one of the recent weekends, we decided we had already had enough of city life, so we packed our camping gear and headed out to the camping areas in the northern part of Estonia.

The day was mature, warm, but windy, when we reached the first place we decided to scout. We have camped here in the past as well, so we knew mostly what to expect. But the weather is always colder at seaside, so this was our main concern. Luckily, it was warm enough, so we decided to set up camp here.

Arriving at the beach. As it was Friday evening and the sun was not blazing anymore, the beach was empty. We picked a cool spot near the beach, under the shade of some trees. If you've ever camped, you know how horrible it is to wake up in the morning in the blazing oven of a tent, if you camp in direct sunlight.

First order of business - carry all the cityslicker stuff from car to camping area. Cars were parked a little further away, as they are neither intended nor allowed to drive to the beach.

We cleared the million pinecones and managed to erect the tent.

Yep, that's our cozy little tent, sitting in the shade there.

Second order of business - test the water! Most, if not all estonians know how to swim and absolutely love it, although the water is not as warm here as in the Mediterranean countries. So we grab every opportunity to jump in, even if it's for a second.

We hit the beach.

It's almost not visible, but on the above photo, in the top right corner, in the water, there is a big rock that you can climb on and jump off into the water from.

The water was not too warm, i guess it was around 16 degrees Celsius, perhaps a bit more, but we swam anyway. It was awesome and refreshing.

After a brief walk, it was time to eat. Unfortunately, our camping trip fell exactly to the same time when there was a full country-wide open fire ban in effect, so we brought our own camping stove.

The meat was de-licious. We tested a new taste from a local producer - pork in cherry and rum marinade and i am not sure if i've ever had better supermarket grill meat.

As the day was getting late, we decided to scout to the peak of the peninsula - the northmost peak of whole Estonia.

I climbed a giant rock and managed to grab some cool photos.

On the below photo, our campsite can almost be seen near the far leftmost beach.

It was windy here, and the day was getting late. We reached the pile of rocks at the tip of the peninsula with the sun low already. We thinked of a few legents what the pile is built for.

We did our part and added our rocks at the top :)

We snagged some more sunset photos and headed back to our campsite to end day one of our camping trip.
