Italian Termhal baths of Viterbo - Steemit logbook

in #photography5 years ago (edited)

Hello friends of @Steemit, today with a new post just returned from a bath to the suggestive Terme di Viterbo, naturally of volcanic origins. This area is very rich in waters that are classified according to their temperature and chemical composition.
We therefore distinguish hyperthermal waters from 40 to 65 ° C, thermal waters of 30-40 ° C and hypothermal 20-30 ° C, chemically classified as (sulfur only for hypertermals) -sulfate-bicarbonate-alkaline-earthy.
These in particular are located near the famous baths of the Popes.

From here comes the boiling water, from the rocky cracks of the hinterland.

Through a channel the water flows and fills the bathtub nearby.

Here there are 4 vases, one of which is larger.
In this area there are many archaeological sites of Roman age, which can Be traceable to the spas, of which romans loved the waters for their wealthy properties.
Legend has it that the Hercules passing through Etruria met the Etruscans Lucumoni who challenged him, and he, to show his strength, eradicate a large tree and from the cavity was born the boiling waters "bulicante" hence the name Bullicame (nominated from Dante in the XIV Canto of Hell, in which the author quotes the Bullicame of Viterbo)
