Saturday morning

Read about Friday night here!

What is it about camping that prompts people to wake willingly at 6am? Is it the sun? The need to pee behind a bush? The birds calling? Sometimes it's the heat or the cold. Our morning on Saturday was actually really nice. It didn't get too cold overnight that anyone was uncomfortable. I even slept out in a hammock and did just fine.

I was the first one up. I found a pee spot, stoked the fire, and got a percolator full of water on for coffee. It wasn't long before the rest of our camp began stirring and soon we were boiling water for oatmeal and getting breakfast around.

Checking Emma Jane for ticks.

The girls all walked down to the little creek called Johnny's Hollar that feeds into the Jacks. They saw raccoon tracks and deer tracks.

Mel, Jason, Jess, Garrett, Mike, and the kids all left for a float trip that morning. The water was much too high and too fast for my girls and I and for Juju. We chose to stay behind to keep an eye on camp and to get dinner started later.

Before getting dinner started though, we ran back to town to get a few supplies, pick up Jojo's friend Bri, and check on the animals at home.

After we got back to the campsite we ate a quick lunch and made our way down to the little creek the girls had explored earlier.

While watching the girls swim and splash, I noticed that on the other side of the creek were Paw-paw trees and they were in bloom. I waded across the water and balanced precariously on a slick muddy slope to get these pictures:

We waded up stream a little where the older girls found a downed tree across the water.

We played a bit more, with me going back to the campsite to check on the roast we had put in the dutch oven for dinner.

We came back up to camp and the girls got changed out of their wet suits and we relaxed a bit.

Okay...maybe a few took naps. Haha!

After resting a bit we walked down to the main river access to see if the gang had made it back yet. We just happened to walk up as they were pulling their canoes and kayaks out of the water!

Maci found this teeny-tiny turtle. We let him go free after everyone got to ooh and ahh over him.

My pups were pooped!

By the time we all got back to the campsite, the roast was ready and everyone was hungry.

Willie Nelson was plumb tuckered out.

The next morning I woke again around 6. Slowly the campsite came awake and we all started packing up our gear. It had been quite a bit colder that night so sleep was not easy. I was glad to get home and bathe and take a nap.

Those kids look so happy playing in that creek!!! I miss you all!!

They were so glad to be allowed to get in the water for once they didn't care how cold it was. I waded across and almost peed my pants. We miss you too, tristol!!!! Lots of love to you from all of us.
