Experimenting with photographic collage.

in #photography5 years ago

I recently started experimenting with digital collage. I've been using Photoshop tools for a long time, but I've never used them to create digital collages like now. It all started when I started to have digital drawing classes, in that section I learned several new things: a bit of 3D design, I have also learned to design better presentations (you will have noticed with the latest covers of my publications), and one of The things that I learned and love is creating images with digital collage.

Maybe those who do not have much idea about Photoshop ask themselves how can you make collages in digital? It is very simple, everything is rounded in the good handling of the layers, the clipping tools, the layer masks, the transparencies, and the filters. If you want to learn how to make collages that look professional, you should take into account the colors as well and the lights and shadows. It is not just about riding things one on top of the other but also giving them a certain "realism" and "not to look so false" even if it is just a collage (although this does not apply if your intention is quite the opposite).

Previously I have been working on creating images for a final photographic presentation that has as main theme nostalgia, memory and body. So I decided to experiment with the same concept in the collage and this was the result.

All collages have been created by me, with photographs or fragments of photographs of my property.

In case someone wants to start experimenting with digital collage, here are some tips:

  • Keep in mind what you want to do, because starting with an empty mind or without a clear idea is difficult :(
  • Inspiring from movie posters or CD covers is a good option. (usually they are always digital montages)
  • Learn about fonts and design.
  • Learning the theories of color is also imprecindible.
