Photochain Photography Contest - Nature

This is my entry into the #photochaincommunity comp run by @runicar. I am a big fan of the concept behind Photochain and the potential for block-chain based stock photography and I hope they succeed.

The shot is of the Natural Bridge under strong moonlight. This was taken just before dawn to minimize the differences in light level (dynamic range) inside and outside the cave. The colour dichotomy is a result of the green rainforest reflections contrasting with the subtle blue from preferential scattering of short-wavelength light as it hits the the waterfall mist in the moonlight.

It is a naturally formed rock arch over Cave Creek, a tributary of the Nerang River. It was formed from a waterfall which undercut a cave beneath the waterfall and dug a pothole on top, until the two joined and the creek flowed through the cave, leaving an arch across the front. The bridge is located in Springbrook National Park in the Gold Coast hinterland of Queensland, Australia.

It is a three shot panorama taken at 30mm using a Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II at ISO 100 and f/16 with an exposure time of 20s. All shots on this post were taken with a Canon EOS 6D.

Wow this is amazing! Can you jump through the hole into the water or is it too shallow?
Is this place usually crowded?

It can be crowded; but it is quiet when your there at 4am ! A couple of years ago they banned swimming in the pools since it was being damaged by tourists. It would be too dangerous to jump though the cave as the shaft goes up though the cave many meters and is quite the drop into relatively shallow water.

Yeah that is basically the strategy for every touristic location - just go there when no one else wants to. When I travelled Java I met a lot of other backpackers who didn't want to visit the UNESCO Heritage site Borobudur, because it is way too crowded. But I went there for sunrise and it was just amazing!

A beautiful place honoured with a top picture. This place is perfect for a three shot panorama. I am also owner of an 6d and really like to make Panos, too. Often you can simulate a slightly higher resolution as if you had a 5dsr :D . Did you use an Pano head on your tripod?

Thanks. I just have a normal (ball) tripod head.

Indescriptible place, so beautiful. And wonderful picture as always

Fantastic shot good luck in the contest

It is a beautiful and amazing capture. The dark edge of the shot made me feel there in the darkness with a bit of cold and I thought, "nobody convinces me to be in that cave the necessary time to make that photo, not only I should need to know enough about photography for taking a picture like that, I should be also intrepid. "... And then I realized, that is just your nickname! Thanks for sharing the image and the tips!

Thanks Rebeca ! Glad you like it. It was a cold damp cave thats for sure!

This is amazing, the perfect shot. Thank you for sharing.
