Garden of the Gods - Colorado
This past week, I got the chance to visit with a friend living in Colorado Springs, CO. While there, we visited at the National Park known as Garden of the Gods.
It was once named "Red Rock Corral" when first discovered, but was renamed after one particular surveyor, Rufus Cable stated it was a place that was "fit for the Gods to assemble".
It became a National Landmark officially in the year 1971.
There are so many different rock formations to see, that spending one day there just isn't enough. We went there on at least three different occasions, yet still didn't see the half of what the park is able to offer.
At the entrance to the park, you can get an amazing view of Pikes Peak, a 14,115 ft level 14 (climbing difficulty) mountain. It is the highest summit of the Rocky Mountains on the southern front range.
Just to give you a different view, here is a shot of Pikes Peak that I took from downtown, in front of the "man on the iron horse" statue, made for William Jackson Palmer, the founder of Colorado Springs.
What is cool about Colorado is that not ten minutes away is another trail located in North Cheyenne Cañon Park. There I was able to see the Helen Hunt Falls. It is a 35 ft waterfall named after Helen Maria Hunt Jackson, a poet who became well known for her activism for betterment of Native Americans.
Colorado Springs and Garden of Gods: endless views of Nature's true beauty. If you ever get the chance to visit Colorado, make sure you stop by these natural wonders.
