Wine Poached Pears

Ingredients:

  • 2-4 Bosc pears (halved);
  • 1 medium orange (sliced);
  • 1 stick cinnamon;
  • 1 star anise pod;
  • 2-4 allspice pods;
  • 2-3 cloves;
  • 3/4 cups sugar;
    1 1/2 cup dry red wine;
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.

For serving:

  • pine nuts;
  • dark chocolate;
  • plan yogurt.
    When it comes to toppings I feel like anyone should pick whatever they wanna pair with their pears. I looked up some recipes and a lot of them call for mascarpone cheese, I'd probably give it a go myself, but sadly, didn't have it on hand at the time. Ice cream would make a great side as well!

Directions:

  1. Wash, peel and core the pears.

  2. Combine all of the ingredients in a sauce pan and bring to a boil.

  3. Add in the pears and reduce the heat. Simmer at a low heat for about 10-15 minutes until cooked.

  4. If you plan on using the liquid as sauce for pears, then take out the pears and continue cooking the mixture until it is reduced by half.

Serve and enjoy!
