Waffle Cafeteria + Ranta-Tampella
My mother, my daughter and I visited Vohvelikahvila this afternoon. After that I wanted to take a look at Ranta-Tampella to see if there had been any visible progress in the construction. The entire lakefront district is a huge construction site.

It occupies the entire fun little building.

Towards the east from Ranta-Tampella. The bridge is no longer in use. A 2.3 kilometer long tunnel has replaced it. There is currently only pedestrian traffic over it.
Lake Näsijärvi is still frozen over unlike Lake Pyhäjärvi on the southern side of the isthmus on which the city centre of Tampere is located on. No crazies ice fishing on the ice that should be quite weak because of the warm weather in recent weeks. Or maybe they've all fallen through the ice.
There is no huge difference between now and last time.
Some of the condos had people living in the already. But they will have to suffer from unfinished streets and a lot of heavy machinery operating in close proximity for a long time to come.
The condos certainly have a good view. I suppose there is a price to match and they wont be cheap. I suppose most road works get done during the spring and summer months and will try and finish by next winter.
That's absolutely true. The price won't be cheap. There is a channel already dug but only a few buildings are being built right now. The streets will most likely be finished in the next few months.

They ask €6250/m2 for the largest ones and €6980/2 for the smallest ones (studios).
That is crazy as 81 square meters is not really a 3 bed apartment. I would not want one of those looking at what you get for the price they are asking. I thought at least 200 squares would be a decent sized living area for a 3 bedroom apartment.
View or not, neither would I. Those are not three bedroom apartments. The number refers to the number of "rooms", in which the living room is included. So, the 80 sqm apartments are actually two beds.
200 square meters is much larger than the average two bedroom apartment here. It's actually much larger than the average three bedroom home. About 100 square meters is pretty normal for a three bedroom apartment.
I know a South African computer scientist living in Tampere. A friend of mine whose co-worker that guy from SA is, once considered moving to SA. The living space you get for your money is something else in SA than in Europe.

That is very true, but the returns are better on property in Europe than here. I thought that meant bedrooms and now it's rooms so makes sense now. We are about to sell our house in Durban and we would have made double the amount for the time we have had it if it was in the UK.

The trees are still bare! These city photos look very grey and wintry, hardly and bright colours.

Yep, the trees will remain completely bare for another 2-3 weeks. The leaves will be fully grown in the second half of May.
