Mr. Crab 🦀

Potamon Potamios or River Crab is a species of the freshwater potamon family.

Breathing in the water with gills.

Lives in tunnels or under rocks on the banks of the river, which is up to 30 cm deep and the bottom is flooded with water.

This crab was first recorded in the book of the French biologist Guillaume Olivier: "Voyage dans l'Empire Ottoman" in 1804.

It is common in the streams here in Israel, and in the eastern Mediterranean basin: the Aegean Islands, Western and Southern Turkey, Syria and Lebanon.

The Potamidae is a family of real freshwater crabs.

The species in this family spend their whole lives in fresh water, unlike other crabs that return to the sea for reproduction.

This particular one was spotted by @simba when we went on our weekly photo-trip, at a relatively new "natural" pool (I used " " 'cos it's actually man-made) droved from the Kishon stream.

It was a nice find, and thanks to @simba and also the awesome zoom from my Canon camera, you got really nice and sharp shots of this magnificent 'lil critter 😋🦀
