Scolopendra cingulata 🦂
While searching for Morchella mushrooms I accidentally stumbled on a large rock and tipped it over, revealing this lil' poisonous critter.
Chilopoda are animals with a thin cotticola that helps them run fast but exposes them to the danger of dehydration (or for excessive water absorption).
Because of this, they are active only during the wet season and during the dark.
During the dry summer season, they hide in low layers of soil where moisture is kept higher.
There are about 2,800 species known worldwide;
Most of them are located in the warmer regions of the globe.
Their life span is 5-6 years.
The Scolopendra cingulata has 26 body parts (the latter hidden), it can be up to 17 cm' long.
His large body stands better than dehydration.
With yellow and black warning colors and red-colored legs.
This genus can be found all over Israel, its poisonous and its bite is very painful and causes swelling, fever, and vomiting.
Enjoy!
