Shapes & Colors 💠

in #photography6 years ago

Went on a photo-trip today with my friend Tali, who took me to several interesting locations in Haiffa.

One of them was a path down the Carmel Mountain near the "Open University" branch through the forest.

There I founds this inseresting contrast in colors in the same baby Pine Tree 🌲

Fossils of pine-like trees are already found in the Strata era of Triassic fossils (200-250 million years ago).

Two species of pine are considered natural in Israel: Pinus Halepensis (also called The Jerusalem Pine) and Pinus Pinea (also called Rock Pine).

The first still inhabits natural places in Israel, such as the "Masrek" reserve and the Carmel Mountains.

Most of the pines in Israel were planted by the British during the British Mandate period, with a ratio of 3 to 1 per tree planted by the Keren Kayemet (kk"l) national organization.

Pine trees are evergreen.

Their lives are relatively short: usually 100-150 years, but their rate of growth is fast.

Although details are known to have reached a ripe age, such as pine in the courtyard of the Rockefeller Museum in Jerusalem, whose age is probably approaching 500 years, and stands 15 meters high.

The Jerusalem pine belongs to the group of pyrophytes that renew themselves with the help of fires 🔥

In the tissue on it and in the branches and trunk are the Bibi resin.

The resin causes very slow decomposition of the leaves of the fallen tree, and therefore a leaf substrate accumulates beneath the pine trees, preventing the growth of many plant species.

This is a highly flammable material, and therefore pine forests are vulnerable to fire, and keeping them from fires is difficult.

The tree does not replenish itself after a fire, but through extensive distribution of seeds and germination, since fire causes the pinecones to warm up and open, thus releasing the seeds that are trapped in them.

The pine nuts, that is to say, the seeds of the pine are scattered everywhere, and so the pine 'promises itself' a quick germination after the fire - in fact the next generation.

Enjoy!
