The Almond Tree Blossom 💮

in #photography5 years ago

@simba and I found this beautiful and wonderful tree in our search for mushrooms - due to the rainy weekend we were experiencing we thought that this was a good time, but aside from a few tree mushrooms, we found nothing.

This was a great opportunity for a first in a long time macro shooting with my Raynox DCR250 super macro lens (finally the alternate adapter came in 🤩)

In the Land of Israel, almond orchards were planted in different places, and wild almonds are also grown there, especially in the groves of the Galilee, the Carmel, Samaria, and Judea.

The almond tree is small, and its height does not usually exceed four meters.

On the other hand, it has deep roots and therefore can grow well even in areas with less rainfall.

The almond leaves fall in the autumn and the flowers begin to blossom as spring comes.

Fruit ripening occurred long after flowering, about six months or more.

The seeds of the wild almonds are bitter, containing a substance called amygdalin, which breaks down and forms cyanic acid.

This acid is a dangerous poison and therefore it is forbidden to eat a large number of bitter almonds.

The cultured species contain a smaller amount of this substance and therefore have a sweeter flavor.

Cultured almond seeds contain large amounts of fat, protein, vitamins, and minerals, and therefore have a great nutritional value.

Enjoy!
