A Hybrid: Red Horse-Chestnut

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

I posted about white chestnut blossom before; this is about the red horse-chestnut (Aesculus × carnea).

It is an artificial hybrid between horse-chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) and red buckeye (Aesculus pavia).

Is that genetic manipulation as well?

Anyway: these trees look mostly like horse-chestnut, but they inherited the red flowers from the red buckeye:

A bit closer in:

Here's the white version of the horse-chestnut, for comparison:

Thanks for watching!

Nice one

Very pretty flowers, that cause a lot of sneezing. There are six white chestnuts right next door. 🐓🐓

That is so cool @ocrdu I have never seen their flowers up close. They are quite beautiful.

Beautiful pictures @ocrdu. Inspired by your white horse chestnut photographs I tried to take some myself but, sadly, my phone is just not up to that close a close up! 😢
