Balance school for Horace the Hawk's son.

Here we see the young warrior landing at the top of a tree that is not happy with his weight!

The tree is also swaying in the wind and it seems that today, Horace junior has to practice his balancing techniques.
I have never seen his father do this, but junior spent about 2 hours on the swaying tree, which was a revelation to watch!
Here are a few pictures about the action.

You can see that he doesn't have a good grip on the tree!

And as the tree whipped back in the wind, junior nearly fell off!

But determinedly he got back on top with a better grip!

And here we go, swaying back and forth in the wind!

Now he's showing off as he even tries to clean a claw in the wind!

And finally a big fat rat as a reward!

Most of nature's inhabitants train their young, but the young also have much freedom once they reach teenager stage. It's a way of weaning them. This guy, Horace junior has already had a couple of scraps with a gang of Indian Myna's by landing near their nest. And if that's not enough he has also had a tussle with a crow about the territory of the top seat on the high tree in our garden. He's a quick learner and whenever there's a number of crows around, junior avoids the high tree seat and he sits hidden amongst the leaves of our African Flame tree!
Hope you have enjoyed his training day!

Indeed, Balance is the key.
Love the photos! It so clear

Please forgive the late reply Lady Joy, but I'm not going to bore you with excuses! Balance plays a critical role in their lives', as they are some of the rare birds that hover in the air prior to diving down at a terrific speed to grab their prey! The Peregrine Falcon is the fasted in the dive, but the Kite (Hawk) is definitely not a slow coach! Thank you for your kind support! Blessing! @joyrobinson

I love the photos of Horace junior, your description make it more enjoyable. You are right as a teenager the parent allow him to fed for himself. Most animal does that.

This is where humans learnt to look after their kids my friend, but sadly many humans keep their children until they are old and these children are never set free to experience life! When the parents die, these children cannot fend for themselves and many end up as charity cases! Simply because they have no independence! Blessings! @giftedwords

Good rat catcher in the neighbourhood, using your treetop is great for daily updates in the life of Horace.

Soon he will fly to find territory of his own.

Absolutely correct as usual Lady Joan! He's in training and daddy is weaning him off. I remember how Marian cried when the Egyption geese were fighting with their children. The dad forbid and chased the youngsters during Marian's feeding spells. I had to sit her down and explain gently how nature works. So glad was she when one of the youngsters returned a few months later with his own wife and he has all of the manners, and quirks of his father. He chases anything that comes to the dam and the bonus is that he remembers Marian and her feeding bag! Blessings! @joanstewart

I love watching the young ones learn their life lessons! I learn as much as they do!

We all learn Lady Melinda and as in my reply above to @giftedwords, parents should learn to set their children free so that they can become self sufficient! Blessings! @melinda010100
