How to score a quick dinner in nature!

in #photography5 years ago (edited)

Look how happy this guy is as he flies away with his score!

I stood watching a Pied Crow circling above one of the apple orchards and I know that when they circle, then they have spotted something to eat. But little did I know that someone else was also watching the crow.
Let me show you how the story unfolded!

Here is the pied crow circling above his target in the orchard!

But then suddenly another bird appears and he is flying at speed.

Boom! He dived and reappeared clutching the crow's intended meal.

And finally, as he left, it almost looked like he bowed his head as a thank you to the crow!

An opportunist of note and all of the crow's work undone. I am told by a good lady friend that if the tail is forked and the bill is yellow, then its a Yellow-billed Kite. Maybe this robber is a kite and I should send the crow this identikit so that he can go and open a case of theft at the crow police station.

Note: this is the first time that I use the #birding tag on one of my many posts about birds, as I was invited by a new friend that told me that the members of the #birding clan would like to see my posts about birds in South Africa's farmlands. You are all welcome to have a look around on my page.

We hope you have enjoyed the pictures and thank you for visiting a post by @papilloncharity

So we sat without communications for a day and a half. But we are back on and we want to thank each of you for your kind and wonderful support. I was formally invited to open the computer lab of the farm school at a function on Monday and will do a thank you post here. Blessings to all.

Sorry to hear about the storm problems. Good it is all fixed now.

Looking forward to reading the report on the computer lab opening.

Amazing shots against that clear blue sky...nature is always full of surprises 😊

@dianadee Thank you Lady Diana and it was a case of a robber (Crow) being robbed! Blessings!

This is what I call being at the right moment at the right time!

Totally agreed Lady Vanessa. And of course also being watchful for surprises. Blessings!

Oh wow @papilloncharity, those are fabulous photos!
We're currently in the Drakensberg and went to a live bird of prey show at a centre that rehabilitates injured raptors, it was amazing!
Thank you for sharing, blessings!

The Drakensburg is such a fabulous area Lady Lizelle and we visited often when Gauteng was still our home. Some of the members in my congregation have timeshare there and whenever they couldn't use it they offered it to us. Enjoy your time there! Blessings!

Thank you @papilloncharity, it was awesome! We arrived to a heatwave but two day later had the fireplace stoked when the weather turned :)

Awesome shots my friend

Thank you JJ, the storm knocked out IT connection out on Tuesday night and we were only reconnected about 3 hours ago. Lost a day and a half with no communications. I owe you an upvote somewhere. Blessings!

Glad to hear your back I hope it was only your internet that was damaged

Congratulations! Your post was selected by the @dropahead Curation Team (dCT)

I feel bad for the Pied Crow, he was too slow to get the job done and had to return with an empty stomach. That being said, I really like your shots. Those birds should be moving really fast but despite of that, you manage to capture them beautifully.

Thanks for sharing, best regards.

@joelsegovia, Thank you! Well the crow's are known as the robbers and this time the robber got robbed! Karma my friend! Blessings!

Kite is fast, Crow got a wake up call on that round, if you want it you have to go in quick and take it!

Great captures once again through your lens @papilloncharity

Thank you Lady Joan. Yesterday it was our turn to sit with no internet connection. The storm winds buffeted the signal tower on the mountain to such an extent hat all of the receivers were damaged. The towers are designed to withstand winds, but I don't think that the manufacturers of the signal equipment had severe winds in mind during their designs! Blessings!

This is very tough for us but it is very easy for this birds.
This is the god gift to them..
Beautiful photographs my friend...

Agreed my friend, nature was designed by God for the fittest to survive! Blessings!
