Macro Photography: three stages of the hazelnut
Hi there my Steemit friends and followers!
It is mid September already, which is when the garden usually gives its last harvests here in Central Europe. There are many difference cultivars of apples, pears and plums ripening these days but I decided to dedicate my today´s post to something else.
We also have some hazel trees in our garden and it is now the hazel nuts season here and since many people only know hazelnuts from chocolate and other treats, I want to show you what these nuts actually look like when grown and ripened on the tree and what you need to do to enjoy their delicious taste.
So this is what ripened hazelnuts look like when you pick them from the tree (or from the ground).
Once you peel the outer green leafy layer off, you will get this. Looks familiar huh? But still not what you actually eat :)
Now you need a nutcracker or a hammer to break the hard nutshell to get to the good stuff inside.
Hazelnuts are very rich in numerous essential nutrients and minerals such as dietary fiber, protein, monounsaturated fat, thiamin, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, Vitamins B, E, K etc.
Selling over 250,000 tons of hazelnuts abroad every year, Turkey is the world´s largest producer and exporter of this healthy delicacy.
All of the photos featured in this post were taken by me and they are my entry for today´s #macrophotography contest hosted by @juliank.
I like the third stage the most. Ready to eat :-)
toto si tiez robil telefonom tie fotos? omg to fakt nechapem ze este aj take pekne "makro" ti robi :D inak lieskovce som mal vzdy radsej nez vlasaky, ale poslednch par rokov sa to obratilo :D akurat chrumem vlasaky
Jasné, pořád tím stejným, starým mobilem :D Ale už se mu to krátí, brzy ho vystřídá nové "nadupané" Xiaomi, takže i kvalita fotek by se měla posunout o level výš :)
Já mám rád všechny ořechy, ale nejvíc pistácie ;)
Here in Germany there aren´t enough Hazelnuts this year and the Squirrels running out of them. People are asked to collect them and out them near the Squirrels.
Really? I am not sure about the total hazelnut harvest in my country this year but as far as our garden is concerned, it is pretty good :D
I looked it up again. It´s only in our city, Stuttgart. It´s due to the heat wave this summer.
Fresh hazelnuts are the best, we used to go foraging for wild hazelnuts when we were children - the best healthy snack ever!
Well it takes some time and dexterity to get to the good stuff inside but I agree! :)
I don't think I've ever seen wild hazelnuts in the UK @phortun but I would be surprised if they don't grow here.
I've never tasted one fresh from the tree. 😊
Based on what @vliet wrote above, you do have wild hazelnuts in the UK :))
Ah. I didn't know vliet was from the UK @phortun. I'll have to keep an eye out for them. Having checked Google it seems they grow abundantly here. Funny I've never seen them. 😁

Your post has been exceptionally beautiful from all the other posts. I will say so beautiful ..
It seems that eating hazelnuts, and other tree nuts, can reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease.
