Hornby Lighthouse near Sydney, Australia

The few days that I stayed in Sydney, I treated myself to a 2 day hop on hop off cruise ticket. And this was an excellent plan since the places around Sydney show you why it is such a nice city! It isn't downtown Sydney that is so special. Yeah sure, the Opera House is great and all. But the rest is honestly a little without character. Could be any other city, really...

And then you take the boat to Watsons Bay to have lunch and go for a quick walk to the lighthouse. It was a bit more than a quick walk though. And I caught myself sitting on a cliff watching this lighthouse and enjoying the wind.

Many people had to die before they started building the Hornby Lighthouse. In 1857 the Dunbar crashed into the cliffs, with a loss of 121 lives. A year later, the lighthouse was constructed as only the third in the whole New South Wales area.

Now, when taking the cruise, you will see many (like MANY) lighthouses in the bay of Sydney. It's just gorgeous...
