[September 21, 2018] Penn Wood at Rustin Football Game - Dance Team and Visting Musicians

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

Please help us show off Steem's potential in our community by supporting our quest to raise funds to reimburse the band boosters for one band member's travel from Pennsylvania to Florida for this year's Citrus Bowl Parade.

Introduction

The band with some visiting fifth graders

Penn Wood High School is part of the William Penn School District in south-eastern Pennsylvania. It is located in Landsdowne, which is part of Delaware County, not far from the Philadelphia airport. According to the school's everipedia page, they have two campuses, one for ninth & tenth grades and another for eleventh and twelfth. On September 21, their football team visited Rustin High School.

If you've been reading our posts, you know that normally one of the schools' marching bands would play the pregame show and the other marching band would perform at half time. However, Penn Wood did not bring a band with them for the game, so the pre-game show was covered by Rustin's Dance Team.

Another thing that was unusual on this night was that the fifth graders who will be attending Rustin in four years were invited to perform with the marching band. It was a nice opportunity for the fifth graders, and many of the band members also enjoyed a short reunion with their elementary school music teachers.

The remainder of this post will be a photo essay of the dance team's pregame show and some of the joint activity with our district's budding musicians joining the band in the stands. Unless otherwise noted, all photos are original, taken from an LG-G4 cell phone. You can expand the photos by right-clicking and opening in a new tab.

Dance Team

I took these in "bursts" so that Google Photos could make animations, but for whatever reason Google photos is failing when it tries to create the animations, so it'll have to be stills.

Visiting Fifth Graders

The fifth graders sat in the stands with the high school musicians throughout the game (late night for fifth graders!). It's probably obvious, but the high-schoolers are the ones in uniform.

This was probably also the first night that the flag section appeared in their full uniforms

Conclusion

Thank you for supporting our fundraising efforts!

As we noted in our steepshot update from the evening, Rustin won the football game, 36 to 28. This may be especially noteworthy, because I heard in the stands that Penn Wood was the second ranked team in the state at the time.

Check back later for additional photo essays from the night. One will include the half time performance with marching band members and visiting 5th grade musicians, another will cover the stands experience.

Also, here is Rustin's football shedule for 2018. If you're in the area of Philadelphia, PA or Wilmington, DE, you only have 3 weeks left to come out and spend Friday night with the Rustin football team and Steem's first marching band.

The @rgkmb-unofficial account is an experimental account that is operated by Steve Palmer (@remlaps). The account's purpose is to demonstrate the viability of a fund-raising model that is based on use of the Steem block chain in the community. The account's goal for 2018 is to raise enough money to send one student on the Rustin Golden Knight Marching Band's trip from Pennsylvania to Florida in December for performances in the Citrus Parade and in Disney. For more information, see our introductory post: Introducing Steem to the Rustin Golden Knights Marching Band

Thank you for your time and attention.
