Hello guys! A new week has just begun and I came home exhausted only a few hours earlier. You see, today was our last school trip of the year and as the tradition has it, this trip should last almost all day.

What was on our schedule for the day?

First stop:

The unique wetland of Lake Kerkini. 

A short presentation of the bird species that inhabit the area...

(not by this guy, he just met us at the entrance of the center)

And then birdwatching... for half of the students.

(A transparent dragonfly came to say "hello" a few meters next to our telescopes)

For the other half, boat rides on the lake to see those amazing birds from up close.

(Guess what, I was not in those lucky guys to get on a boat ☹)

How about a souvenir?

The lake's ecosystem is rich in flora and fauna, although the birds population is dropping over the course of the years.

Second stop: 

Ano Poroia (Serres, Central Macedonia). 

A beautiful little village, full of green plane trees, streams and flowers!

Oh! And little guys like this kitty!

And this poor doggie, which seemed to have lost half of his ear...

(I felt so sorry for him, look at his sad face...)

In the village there are a couple of beautiful squares with cafés and tavernas that serve delicious buffalo dishes. It seems that buffalos are very popular in the area. Did I mention that we even saw some while at the birdwatching site? No? Apologies!

You can also go horse-riding with a guide (nothing that special, just 10' on the horse to wander the little paths around the square and along a stream that goes down through the village).

And just before our trip ended...

Some ice cream to cool us down from the summer heat that has already started to become unbearable.

This was our last trip where students of all classes took part. In two weeks we are saying goodbye to our students. Schools close. Summer holidays begin. No more bell ringing at 8:10 to signal prayer time, no more footsteps on the stairs, laughter and loud voices down the corridors and in the schoolyard. For 3 months we will go on a break until... next September!

Well, those 3 months will flow quickly... like the water in a river!
