Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe - Recent Photo

in #photography5 years ago

This is another photo from my Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe photo adventure a few days ago. After the colorful sunrise at Eagle Falls, my photographer friend Tony Spiker and I moved locations for a different view of the bay. We knew we wanted to catch the sun rising over the mountain and hopefully get a nice sunburst. Success! We got what we were looking for.

I talked a bit about capturing this photo in my latest Dtube video HERE, but I also wanted to post the photo so you can click on it and view it larger if you want.

Shot on a Canon 5DS R with a 16-35mm lens set at 17mm. The ISO was 50 so this one will have great detail when printed up huge. The aperture was f22, the smaller aperture opening you use, the bigger and better sunburst you can get. Two graduated neutral density filters were used on the lens in order to darken the sky and balance the foreground exposure with the sky exposure. This all led to a shutter speed of .4 second.

Thank you for looking, I hope you are all having a photogenic day out there!

Cool! Yes, using a small lens aperture can really do some fun things with the sun. Cheers!
