Scientific name: Papilio polytes

the common Mormon

Jet black butterfly with a row of white spots along the middle part of the hindwing. 90–100 mm.,

Male
The male has one morph only. It is a dark-coloured swallow-tailed butterfly. The upper forewing has a series of white spots decreasing in size towards the apex. The upper hindwing has a complete discal band of elongated white spots. It may or may not have marginal red crescents. The males are generally smaller in size than the females but not always. Both male and all forms of the female of P. polytes can vary considerably in size depending on the climatic region.

Female
The female of the common Mormon is polymorphic. In the Indian Subcontinent, it has three forms or morphs.

Scientific name: Ariadne ariadne

the angled castor

This butterfly is orange darker with wavy lines running over. The edge is to some degree wavy and seeming truncated at the zenith of the forewing. The edge is wavy with a vast edge introduce on the fifth vein interspace and at the tip of vein three. The tornus is comprehensively angulate. The hindwing termen is profoundly scalloped. There is a conspicuous white spot towards the summit of the forewing. The cilia are white, exchanged with darker. On the underside there is more dark coloured.

Radio wires, head, thorax and midriff ochraceous rufous. Guys have a progression of dull sparkling scales (androconia) on the subcostal vein, veins 6 and 7 and a fix on the underside of the forewing towards the base. Females seem to be comparative yet are marginally paler and without the androconial scales.

Ariadne looks somewhat like Ariadne merione, the basic castor, yet in the calculated castor, the transverse chestnut groups are smaller and less diffuse. The edges of the regular castor are less wavy.
