Tibet hold religion in high regard in their culture and overall society. It influences society in almost every way and Buddhism has become the majority in terms of following and influential power. In the past, the Bon religion would also be the main following but as times have shifted emphasis of following and society have shifted to Buddhism. Tibetan Buddhism has its own teachings and followings. It has spread throughout Tibet and has ventured into surrounding areas with followers in nearby countries such as India, Mongolia and more. Tibetan Buddhism is known to have been introduced from Sanskrit Buddhist teachings originating in India. I found it most fascinating as I began to understand the roots of the very society I was exploring. Many monasteries throughout Tibet had survived the Cultural Revolution and it is well worth visiting them while in Tibet, many of them have been restored and they are often referred to as the main tourist attractions of the country.
