Visiting Sydney Town Hall #2

in #photography6 years ago

Upon entering and exploring the building I was greeted by a barrage of luxurious and splendid décor. From the coving on the walls and ceilings right down to the intricate flooring design, the Town Hall felt like a warp back in time.

Lighting throughout the venue maintains a gradient between blue and yellow light that complement the walls and framed pictures as you walk down the corridors. The arches further add to this extravagance and it certainly a venue that was used for many purposes. Sydney’s Town Hall had even been used as a main concert hall before the opening of the Opera House.

It’s clear that a number of renovation works had been carried out in recent years, this is expected to keep the building in service and fit for purpose but the heritage has been maintained and left intact.

The hall here echoed as I walked through. Walking into this space, the varnished floor remained impeccable and shined under the chandelier which elegantly hangs down from the domed ceiling. This inn particular is referred to as the Vestibule and is one of Australia’s most special interiors to date. There is nothing short of luxury and grandeur in this space. The coving plaster work really shows off the grand craftsmanship of its era. The colour choices, shapes and intricate shapes that make of this décor is an impressive feat and really needs to be experienced by one in person.

Once again I found myself looking up at the domed ceiling above the chandelier. The dome has not been left a void space, it oozes splendour with hand painted figures that embody the natural elements. The chandelier itself is an amazing centre piece that hold hundreds of light bulbs.

I truly enjoyed my visit to the Sydney Town Hall and felt privileged to visit this landmark. This friendly seagull decided to pose for a picture and send me off to my next destination.
