Full Spectrum Long Exposure Ultraviolet Fluorescence Photography #5: Ginger Flowers

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

With Ginger flowering, I had an opportunity to take a stalk and check it out with my LED black light. The first thing I notice was the flowers have an amazing smell to them. And the white flowers looked blue in the Ultraviolet light.

I focused on the stamens in this shot, due to the low f/stop my focus was narrow. If I tried stopping up the images became very dim. As with the ISO as well, I kept it at 200 for the best natural luminescence.

The spiky cones are soon to be flowers coming up through the stalk.

I took this one a little further away from the flower stalk, covering more of the whole sample.

These are the flowers before they open, you can see them in the first photo as well as little cones coming up through the stalk.

When they open, they have the most amazing smell. And have a Lilly like appearance.

A slightly more open flower, as they go through their different stages they stand to unwrap into flowers.

Lastly a full flower shot with the black light.

And a reference photo of what my sample looks like in normal light with a normal camera.

That's awesome, they look alien.

@felipejoys

Appreciated, yeah my black light photos are very abstract. Sometimes its hard for me to figure out what I got in the picture.. haha

Yes, fluorescence photography - I really like those outer-space-like pictures. Background just black and the flower glowing (in the dark haha). My favorite picture definitely is no. two although three and six got sth gorgeous too. Six looks so calm and peaceful, somehow. Number one and four is awesome too but some of the others look like "too much" for me (photographfive and seven).
Lmao, thx for the refernece photo at the end of the article. Generally, it looks beautiful.

@gandalfthewhite

Yeah! I only have done 5 scenes compared to dozens of UV and IR photos. I need to catch up, but will probably need to wait till spring to find some new samples. Its starting to get chilly around here so flowers for the most part will stop producing.

That Macro lens give that outer space look, If i used a normal lens I think I would have to use a back drop so things in the background would not fluoresce. Though the downfalls of my macro lens is a very tight focus, so its hard to get the whole flower in focus doing this kind of photography. A steemit photographer @brianhphotos sent me a guide to follow to do, focus stacking. I need to take some time and read and try it out.

I think a couple of them were over exposed making them look too bright. Hah no problem, yeah I can see why people would want a reference.

You're right. In spring it's easier to find some great flowers than it is in fall. You still shot some interesting photos right there.

Alright alright. You can tell I really like those outer space looks. Oh, didn't know that. That sounds like a legit excuse my dear. Definitely looks like you got the skills (I'm sure you have them) but the equipment can't keep up, kind of. Well, maybe this guide can help you and you don't even need better gear. I'm curious about it. You can do it man.

Yeah, it's pretty helpful for us spectators imo.

@gandalfthewhite

thank you, im glad others think im doing good. As I only really started getting into photography a year or so ago. I think im catching on pretty good.

Yeah im also asking my equipment to do things its not meant to. So sometimes I may need software to get it all together post process.

You are welcome sir. Yea you are.

"Learning by doing/trying" prolly fits here pretty well.

@gandalfthewhite

Yeah im a real hands on kind of person, so that way works well for me.

thanks again.

looks to be more beautiful & pull the flower color

the look of the blue color looks very cool @solominer
I like blue color

the original color of the flower and the color of the flower in the infra red are unique in each

@santiintan

Yeah me too its a very nice blue, funny how white flowers look like that under my UV light.

I agree, checking out flowers and plants in different spectrums can be quite unique in their outcomes.

Good photo! One of the best flower shots ever. Looks magical with that blue/purple glow.

@cosmiccrimes

wow thanks much! This is my fifth in series of these UV shots, I hope to get many more.

I wonder what would happen if you took photos in the dark with objects that glow in the dark?

@cosmiccrimes

Hmm I may give that a try, I would need to charge them first but then I would be able to see them.

I will keep an eye out for it if you do post.

Amazing photography @solominer, i like it, success is always for you..

@teungkumerdu

thank you, im always surprised with the blacklights on flowers. They look great.

That blue light IS special... And the petals come out almost translucent... Cool...

@ackhoo

Yep its a UV light, I see that too. The young petals are, you are correct.

Very pretty effect! :)

@ackhoo

thank you, im improving with each sample I shoot.

@manorvillemike

yeah cool how blacklights make plants glow.

@glorimarbolivar
