A classical evening in the park

in #photography5 years ago

Tonight there was a free classical concert put on by the philharmonic orchestra in the park outside Tampere Talo, the city concert hall. We have made it a little bit of a tradition and have been there for the last 3 concerts and last year we celebrated @smallsteps' birthday there with friends. This year, it was with the family.

Most of the time the weather was beautiful, yet there was also a "spot of rain" while @momone and I went for hotdogs and we got absolutely drenched. However to our surprise, the hotdog stand was run by a South African ex-colleague of mine who is now in the sausage making business and, they are fantastic sausages. Finns love their sausage, it is just a pity that the local sausages they make are absolute rubbish - pre-cooked things with the skin of an old crocodile wrapped around them. Sausage lovers would be ashamed to take a second bite, no matter how hungry they were.

I had earlier told my father-in-law about these sausages and he was very skeptical, so we took him one to try. He then went back and ordered another two.

Raining in the sunshine:

The concert was conducted by a local "superstar" Santtu-Matias Rouvali, who has over the last few years shot into the spotlight and managed to attract large crowds back to classical music with his style and banter with the audience. There were thousands of people picnicking and enjoying the atmosphere there today.

Including the in-laws:

And daughter like father:

I also was able to snap a couple good shots of @smallsteps with her Mummi and I think that one of these will be nice in a frame as a gift:

The park that we were in is called Sorsapuisto (Duck Park) and is a popular place to sunbath in the summer. My wife and I have also attended some impromptu salsa parties here that have begun late and ended later. It is a pretty place and when I lived close to it, I would spend some time here reading or drawing.

But as always, the reason we really do anything these days is for @smallsteps and she loves her music. There is a video on my wife's phone of her trying her hand and conducting the orchestra with a straw, she needs some work but did a decent job.

She is growing up so fast.

It was a decent evening out and I am glad that now we are able to take a few foods that travel well for @smallsteps' snacks, we are able to spend some longer periods of time out and about without as much worry about getting her fed in places without a microwave. Sitting in the park with the even sunshine listening to an orchestra is quite pleasant. As we were leaving, we could hear the Rammstein gig about a kilometer away warming up. Some people were going to both.

I didn't know Rammstein still played.

They are really good sausages as they are fresh made (as if there was another option). Might head back and see if I can get another today :)

Get two if they're that good! 😁

Yeh they do that (grow up fast) and before you know it they’re eye rolling teenagers 🤣

Yay for better travel food being available so you can go out longer! So the allergy situation is improving?

She is eye-rolling now... I can't imagine what it is going to be like in 10 years.

The allergies are improving very slowly but because we have been able to expand the food range a little, it makes it easier instead of having frozen food with us. No microwaves in the park.

Oh yes indeed Rammstein still play!!

I like the depth of field in your pics. Is it a smartphone though, I detect some smartphonery maybe?

yes, this is mostly smartfakery, but the camera is actually pretty good in it too. However, most of the depth is software assisted.

Oh yes, the camera is top notch! I love my smartphone camera too which does a similar thing. Its the gradient I always spot as I used to be a bit of a camera chap. But lets face it, the power of smart phone cameras these days just makes them so much easier to carry about and obtain great shots.

hides from DSLR purists...

That was a trap! You are a fool!!

It serves it's purpose in a pinch and on the go and, it is a lot of fun to piss around with. Not going to cut it for some of what I need, but for most who look to snap and upload, why not.

Oh no!!

I fell for it, I must return to wearing the big load on my neck. Like an albatross!!

I must return to wearing the big load on my neck

This is not that kind of blog... try dPorn.

Man, my penis, it's so weary of being on display

It is nice to spend a family day outdoors. You're right, your daughter is growing fast :) I love the eighth picture!

She is a funny one too. The parks are nice at this time of year when the sun is shining.

Very cool - there is nothing better than classical music outside in the sun. Thanks for sharing this with us.

They put on a winter one as well, the dress code is a bit different at -20 :)

Ha well it doesn't get quite that cold here... that one would require a lot of Beethoven to get me outside!

Perhaps the Rammstein would be better suited ;D

No kidding - I had no idea they were still around either

He likes classical music at least ;D

Well, it's classical. It's been around for a while. Nothing too rad. ;)
