FIRST EVER REFRIGERATION PLANT IN USA

in #photography5 years ago (edited)

First Refrigeration Plant in the USA.
Now that's some claim.
The building you will see in the following pictures, is to be admired.
We noticed this structure years ago, and love seeing it whenever we are out and about.
You know how it is said "you photography well, or you don't."
Well, this building with its spectacular stone and mortar construction, set in this encompassing landscape, beckons to be photographed.

With the building being made of stone, it would retain the cold as the Refrigeration Plant was filled with large blocks of ice.
When speaking with several old-timers, they told me that the huge blocks of ice were cut from the frozen river behind the building.
Large ice tongs would grab the blocks, and the ice would be drawn from the water, and then to the plant by horses.

To me, it looks more like a beautiful painting.
I love all of the different shades of gray.

Having built several homes in my day, I'm always amazed at what man was able to accomplish years ago.
This building has stood for a 143 years, and was constructed with shear brute force.

The following two sets of pictures were taken 15 to 20 years ago.
Bought some antique frames and they have been a part of our wall hangings ever since.

Would like to get a picture of every season with the trees growing out of the Refrigation Plant.

Returning home from our seven mile jaunt to the Refrigeration Plant, the skyline called to have its beauty captured.

Howdy sir bigsweed! wow that is some building, all that stone work...too bad the roof wasn't stone too or it would still be usable! That's a wonderful, picturesque location too. Great photos, I guess you could have just take pictures of your framed pictures!
That's some nice country up there, it does look like Amish country.

I wounder how long it took them to construct the building.
Did some investigating and could find very little info. The information I was able to dig up came from some farmers that I met years ago.

howdy again sir bigsweed! yes sir that would be interesting indeed. The close up shots reveal that it is a big building! that's alot of stone. Someone should put a roof on it and turn it into something usable because the building looks like it's going to last forever!
