WM Photography - Varanasi, INDIA + travel tips
Ah! Varanasi! The holiest of the seven holy cities of India, where Buddha is said to have founded Buddhism upon his sermon "The setting in Motion of the Wheel of Dharma" around 528 B.C. Home of the Ghats, the world-renowned embankments made of steps of stone slabs along river Ganges where pilgrims perform ritual ablutions. As everyone who has been to India knows, there are few places in the world where you can get that much color. It's everywhere: clothes, buildings, cars, jewelry, sky, elephants, you name it. Here are some of the photos we got from the beginning of our trip, 3 years back, that began in Kolkata and from where we took the train to Varanasi. In future posts we will conclude this photo-story with Jaipur, Udaipur, Goa, Deli and, of course, the legendary Taj Mahal.
"Oh! Hi there! Welcome to Varanasi's photography, I sure hope you enjoy it!"

The Stupa in Sarnath, where it is said Gautama Buddha first taught the Dhamma, and where the Buddhist Sangha came into existence
And finally, the contact for my man Raj. Fell free to get in touch with him and he will wait for you at the train station or any other place and get you anywhere in his Tuk Tuk. If necessary, he can give you tips where to go and where to eat (buffalo steak, anyone?). For bonus points, tell him Nuno and Dali say Hi! :)
Unlike some of our previous posts, where we use Free to Use CC0 Photography to illustrate travel stories (always duly attributed to the respective owners), all photography in this post is our work.
For those looking for new adventures, we have also recently started a series of posts as a narrative of the French Way of the Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in 28 days, across northern Spain. You can read about it HERE . Excerpt from the Preface: "a journey through a land of kindness, humanity and faith, which will reveal to the reader that these values are not forsaken, but rather remain spontaneous in certain places of a world that, sadly, came to worship the ephemeral nature of owning over the eternal value of BEING."
and FOLLOW us so you can join us through the rest of this Journey!
