Roads - fire, it's easier to leave the car and walk 😅😂

Unfortunately, one of the main eternal problems of Ukraine - bad roads - remains relevant.

The situation in the country, to put it mildly, is far from ideal. If the federal highways on a vestige could be brought to a normal state, then the situation on the regional roads is much worse. Only about 40% meet operational requirements.

People often wonder why our roads are bad. 

Usually the whole explanation begins with the word "steal." It ends there. But not so easy. There are other reasons I tried to understand them.

Why dear bad. 10 points:

  • 3. Geography
  • 4. Insufficient funding
  • 5. Non-standard loads on roads
  • 6. Regulatory documentation
  • 7. Low quality building materials
  • 8. Repair of the road and its absence
  • 9. Poor quality design
  • 10. Corruption

Now let's sort each item in order.

1. Major cities: the inevitability of monopoly

In megacities, the repair and construction of roads can be carried out only by an organization that has construction bases and facilities in the city, with workers with an appropriate salary. To become such a company is very expensive - an expensive warehouse rental, workers have to pay a competitive salary. Therefore, in large cities the number of companies participating in the roads is small, they become monopolists, and therefore their quality drops sharply.

2. Lack of system control

In Kiev, the design and construction of roads is actually under the jurisdiction of builders who have a psychology of taxi drivers: if there are 2 rows and there is a traffic jam, you need to do 4 rows. If you just give the road builders a lot of money, they will build many more tracks on your own. The same goes for repairs. Officials who need to monitor the condition of the roads have no incentive to drive around the city and measure the size of the openings; they will still get their salary.

3. Geography

For example, in the USA or Europe. And there will be no roads across the country. A similar story, by the way, with high-speed railways. In China, they are growing rapidly due to the very high population density. We have to build high-speed railways, they will never pay off.

4. Insufficient funding

Road workers say: "Give me as much as possible, you will rob everything and build nothing normally." To keep the roads in good condition, they need to invest.

5. Non-standard loads on roads

Previously, no one paid attention to it, but the problem is serious: cars practically do not destroy the road, unlike heavy trucks, but they pay the same tax. Recently, a breakthrough has occurred in this matter: they have introduced a differentiated collection of 12 tons or more, organize checkpoints and introduce an automatic monitoring system. As on the toll road, payment is made at checkpoints for travel, and a differential payment will be entered here.

6. Regulatory documentation

Outdated regulatory documents of roads and rules that were created many years ago and do not meet current requirements and loads.

7. Low quality building materials

The main materials in the road sector are stone material, often used as a base (rubble in ordinary people) and astringent, that is, bitumen. The quality of rubble and bitumen limp for a number of reasons not directly related to road construction. Bitumens are production residues in oil companies, not the main source of income. Therefore, no one really thinks about its quality, about what happened, so well, about the bezryba still buy.

With a stone, the situation is simpler. We have our own good career, from there you need to pick up material with special trucks, crush correctly, pick up the train and send it to the factory. The problem is that there are big consumers of this stone, for which the quality of rubble is not very important. For example, railways. They buy crushed stone for embankments in amounts incompatible with what is required for road builders. It is not profitable for enterprises to produce a small batch of high-quality crushed stone; it is easier to sell a large batch where no one will find a lack of quality.

8. Repair of the road and its absence

Building a road is half the battle. It should also contain. In winter, clean the snow, wash out the barrier fences, renew the marking, sweep and wash the streets, change the upper layer of the road, repair the holes. Repair of roads is a separate large topic; it is divided into current, capital and reconstruction.

Here is the situation as with the teeth. If you do not heal and do not take care of them in time, you will soon have to pull out a tooth or conduct a comprehensive treatment. If the road is not repaired on time and serviced incorrectly, then it quickly collapses.

9. Poor quality design

How long does it take to teach designers how to design? Hard to say. This process will not be fast, but in 5-10 years real trained designers will already be prepared. And another ten years, these young guys will explain what innovative methods should be used in the construction of roads.

10. Corruption

Everyone talks about corruption: it does not allow us to build roads normally, contract organizations pay clients, and therefore they choose careless performers, and careless performers destroy everything, etc. This problem exists, but it is not as significant as is commonly believed.

Of course, they steal for road construction, but this is not the main reason for bad roads in Ukraine.

Try to go around the pit. Your car is not to blame for the fact that you have such roads.
