PitchPerfect Week #28 - "Caro mio ben" (Interpretación)

in #pitchperfect6 years ago (edited)

Saludos Steemians!

Greetings Steemians! For my participation in the PitchPerfect Week # 28, I chose to play and sing a well-known ancient Aria; "Caro mio ben." Some time ago, when I was studying at the conservatory, I had the opportunity to sing it in public, I remember the experience with a lot of nostalgia, I really enjoyed that moment. I put here the lyrics in Italian and below the respective translation of this beautiful piece by Giuseppe Giordani.

Caro Mio Ben

Giuseppe Giordani

Caro mio ben
Credimi almen,
Senza di te
Languisce il cor,
Caro mio ben,
Senza di te
Languisce il cor.

Il tuo fedel
So spira ognor.
Cessa, crudel,
Tanto rigor!
Cessa, crudel,
Tanto rigor,
Tanto rigor!

Caro mio ben
Credimi almen,
Senza di te
Languisce il cor,

Caro mio ben
Credimi almen,

In English:
My beloved: at least believe me that without you, my heart languishes. Your faithful lover always sighs. Stop, cruel, so much rigor! So much rigor !. My beloved, believe me at least, without you my heart languishes.

Here I gather for you a textual quote from a web portal that talks about both the life of Giordani and the canzonetta "Caro Mio Ben", the article I loved, it is precise and synthetic.

The Neapolitan Giuseppe Giordani, nicknamed Giordanello, studied in his youth at the Conservatory of Santa Maria del Loreto in his hometown, having as companions Domenico Cimarosa and Niccolò Antonio Zingarelli. Substituting Gennaro Maná, who had been his teacher at the conservatory, at 23 he was appointed professor of music at the chapel of the cathedral of Naples, where the famous San Gennaro Treasure Chapel is located.

In the spring of 1779 he married the singer Emanuela Cosmi and in the autumn of that same year he made his debut as an opera composer with the drama L'Epponina, with which he opened the Teatro della Palla a Corda in Florence. From 1779 to 1796, he wrote more than 40 works, including serious operas, buffa and oratorios. After taking charge of the Philharmonic Academy of Modena and Parma, in 1787 he premiered in the Teatro de San Carlos of his city the sacred drama, with a libretto by Carlo Sernicola, La distruzione di Gerusalemme, the first sacred drama in history to be interpreted in a theater. Perhaps this was the reason, or perhaps the success that he had among the Neapolitans, for him to notice the famous German writer Goethe, who echoes his representation in the essay Journey to Italy with these words: March 9, 1787 ... They give now, in Lent, religious operas that are not absolutely different from the mundane, if it is not that there is no dancing in the middle; For the rest, they do everything extravagant that is possible. The reading of the essay does not clarify if he attended the work, but in any case it is clear to us that the greatest German man of letters is lost for these things.

Several of Giordani's many opera arias were adapted for singing and piano in the 19th century. One of those canzonettas is Caro mio ben, from an anonymous text possibly from an old Neapolitan poem. It emphasizes the simplicity of its melody and formal balance, without excessive drama that coincides with the typical characteristics of Italian music of the second half of the eighteenth century.
