Losing icons
left
right and
centre
to suicide
They had it all
or so it seemed to us
because we wanted
what they had
Do we want it now
think twice
we all know
about the grass
let's leave it at that
Why do we worship
and whom
because we need
something and someone
to aspire toward
upward
Maybe we need to
for once and all
finally
look inside
and accept that
we
are
enough.

So often we forget that our idols are human too, and that no amount of fame and fortune can fill voids that exist outside of the material. It's in human nature to constantly strive for more, and when you reach the top and realize that it's no more fulfilling than simply having what you need to survive, that can be profoundly lonely. My heart hurts for the people who are left behind, who must feel on some level that they were not enough, even when nobody could have been.

It sucks that we are losing icons like that but it must be tough to be at the top. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. They want money and fame but they don't realize that they have to trade their soul for it. I used to want to be famous when I was a kid, but now I realize what a prison it is.

We forget that our icons have feet of clay too. That their lives are probably very similar to ours, worries and care to a different magnitude. You are right, perhaps we do need to look more closely at ourselves for happiness instead of looking towards others to fulfil our dreams.

Anthony Bourdain seems to be the latest victim of the invisible threat. Only a few days ago I saw something about Kate Spade which means success is not enough for them to live on with their days. We need to understand more on what they are feeling deep inside and one of them is not happiness.
Its not about happiness @harlot...it seems to be about survival sadly.
Yes. Their battle of depression is like a survival for them. I know this because of a lot of people that are close to me has experiences like this one. Sadly some of my close friends have loved ones who has lost the battle.
