"Words fall short" - A Poem

I heard when you spoke
Of a new love filled with hope
But I could not find the words
Something more profound
Than “nope”
I saw the signs
Hoped they weren’t real
Because I knew
How it would make you feel
So...
But it’s how you feel
And not what you know
And the best intentioned advice
Delivered more than once or twice
Can one day lodge unsaid
In the advice giver’s throat
That being said
Experience teaches
First hand learning reaches
The heart
Where words tend to
Fall short
