Without some unexpected encouragement, these poems would have remained unpublished.

Notes and scribbles from writing process for all three diamante poems written on June 1, 2018

After writing a series of free verse poems this spring, some order is now in order. The diamante and its compare/contrast nature was a real challenge for me because at its basis this form feels too abstract for comfort. The diamante is un-metered, and doesn't usually rhyme. Plus it is constructed from bits of grammar fundamentals, rather than fully developed ideas about a subject.

"Birth to Death" examines life from “start” to “finish” (evidence suggests life is infinite) by contrasting central aspects of each of those segments of life. The idea for this poem came when I began asking myself, “What are some straightforward synonym/antonym pairs for this exercise?” What came out could be a passing glimpse at our mortality. Or perhaps it was just a quick and easy poem.

”Q &A” is a poem touching on the process of learning. The fruit of knowledge holds seeds of truth, or something along those lines. I have a serious hunger for learning, a thirst that refuses to be slaked, so this poem is rather personal in that regard.

I wrote these two poems on the same day as my previous diamante, “Patience and Wrath”, yet I felt they were not really worthy of publication to the blockchain because they seemed too impersonal or simplistic. A thoughtful and supportive comment from @lazarus-wist changed that mindset. He warmly explained that abstract poetry like this allows the reader a more intimate look at the poet’s own interpretation of language. Decision made.

To @lazarus-wist, “For adding some wind beneath my wings, Thank You”.

You are really gifted as a poet writer and also as a creative artist , your artwork and poem are always distinct and unique in its form. You always add some perfect touches to your works @enternamehere

Thank you for the kind sentiment and for reading.

Who is encouraging you? Whoever is doing it, great job. You might publish a book and say to your future nephews you were a true poet, living large and in gratefulness.

For this particular set of poems, @lazarus-wist encouraged me by explaining why abstract poetry is appealing. I thought they were boring poems, not worthy of a post, but apparently I thought wrong. I have steemit in general to thank for all of the feedback on my poetry. I appreciate your words of encouragement also. Plus you play along and humor me, also appreciated :)

A book, an audiobook, yes something is coming from these. I'm having too much fun with this poetry stuff to let it fade into memory.

Enjoyed your post, like yourself I focus on art and poetry. It makes life more interesting.
