Yearning Wit - Photography & Poetry

in #poetry5 years ago (edited)

About a week ago I saw a post that had an impact on me. Two great artists @soyrosa and @raj808 working together to combine photography with poetry. You can check @soyrosa's post here Art collaboration: Photography by @soyrosa & Poetry by @raj808 and @raj808's post here The Dereliction of Time - Poetry/Photography Collaboration by @raj808 & @soyrosa.

I liked the idea right away. It's a great challenge and experience for both parties.

Then a few days later I had a chat with my dear friend @futuremind (who is writing poetry by the way), about one of my drawings. During the conversation I realized that if he can see so many things in my drawings, we could do a collaboration. He could express what he sees and feels in a poem. To my surprise he said yes right away!

Working with another artist is a great honor and also a great responsibility! I was very happy he is willing to associate his name with my art, especially with my drawings. It is a big deal to me because I'm at the beginning of experiencing new forms of drawing, and most of my drawings are just practices, but I thought if my drawings speak to him, something good might come out of it.

After discussing some basic details, I sent him a photograph of mine and gave him time to think about it.

Choosing a photograph or a drawing that needs to be matched with an unborn poem is exciting and difficult in the same time.

As a photographer, when I see a scene I like, my main focus is on finding the best angle, the best time of the day so the light would be perfect, if I have that luxury and so on.

The chosen photograph is very dear to me because it can be interpreted in two ways, in my humble opinion. I can see "the light at the end of the corridor”, or I can see a “road that is narrowing down” towards the end. Or I could see a lot of other things depending on my mood and state of mind.

A poet on the other hand could see totally different things when looking at the photo.

To my surprise @futuremind liked the photo right away, and after a short period of accommodation he was able to write the poem which it turned out great!

Yearning Wit

Solid was the oak beneath her tote,
The thought disposed as tiny note's,
She peered through wickedness,
A time ago,
Now was a wonder,
Her time to grow.

It was,
Transcendentally, incidentally,
Forlorn,
Laden with scorn,
Uplifting melodies, she's torn.

Straight ahead she peers,
Through vast thoughts,
And long lined tears,
She reels, and tossed,
Give it another.

She fails to blunder,
It's all but lost,
Crackling thunder,
She rises tall,
Like tides in fall,
Through wicked winds she feels enthralled.

She'll never crumble,
She'll never fall,
For what was lost, cannot be found,
She takes a knee,
She feel's the grain,
She throws away, her mental pain.

Again she fixes in her gaze,
Her labored days are all a haze,
She never stumbled,
She never quit,
She quietly planned,
Her yearning wit.

Combining the photo with the poem was also a collaboration, after some drafts we decided this is the final version we are both satisfied with.

This is the first post of the project, according to @futuremind I get to post it because the collaboration was my idea. He's going to make a post as well, in which he's going to share his experience with the project. I'm really looking forward to reading it, I'm curious to learn about his experience.

The next step will be an interesting one. He's going to write a poem and I'm going to find a photograph or a drawing to match the poem! This is going to be a real challenge for me and it might take a little longer, or not. It depends on the poem I'm given.

I really enjoyed working on this project and I hope we can keep on working with each other.

Feel free to tell me what you think about the outcome. Any constructive comments are welcome.

Hey dear @erikah and @futuremind! This makes me so happy! To know that what @raj808 and I did inspired you guys to get your own collaboration going!

It turned out very nice! I love the strong black & white image with straight lines pointing in more than one direction, indeed multi-interpretable. The words of @futuremind then really add some 'strength' to the image, I felt the touch of wood while reading his words :-)

Good job and good luck on part II!

Hi @soyrosa

Thank you so much for the compliment! Yourself and @raj808 certainly inspired this collaboration. @erikah was keen in detecting the potential for us to work with one another. She is quite intuitive in this department, and had nothing but positive things to say regarding the awesome influence you two had on her.
I must say that I was impressed with how erikah was able to take charge of this project, while communicating all the intricate details with me, and keeping organized plans of action for deadlines, and edits. She is amazing at this! It really couldn't have been a more pleasant experience for me. 😊

PS. You have no idea how hard this was to keep secret when I was talking with you in discord the other day! 🤐😅

LOL! I immediately thought of our conversation @futuremind, and it made me smile indeed! It didn't take me long to figure out that this is why you commented about my content 'lately' :') Awesome.

I'm glad you enjoyed working with @erikah so much, it is certainly for the better if one takes charge in order to have this process go smoothly :-) In our case @raj808 was clearly the initiator since it was 'his' assignment for Sandbox, and although I like being in control of a lot of what I do I was also surprised by how relaxed I felt by leaving most of the 'thinking' and 'scheduling' in the hands of someone else :-)

I've learned a lot, and as far as I can see bot you and Erikah did as well :D Excited to see more in the future!

This was a great experience for both of us, I think @futuremind is going to agree with with me on this. 🙂

Maybe we (you and @raj808 and @futuremind and me) have started something without realising it. Maybe one day we can create a challenge, calling artists to collaborate, to work together on creating something unique and valuable 🙂

In any case, I'm always be grateful to you two for showing the way and opening the door!

I think @futuremind is going to agree with with me on this. 🙂

I agree 🌹

I knew it! 😀

I want to jump in on @soyrosa's comment and say that I'm made up as well that our collaboration inspired others to do similar :-)

@erikah and @futuremind really well done :-)

Thank you very much for the kind words @raj808, it means a lot to us. I was just saying to @soyrosa that you guys started something really great, opened the door and maybe this can grow in time. I hope other artists can see the benefits of two artists working together. 🙂

Thank you so much for the inspiration and compliment! @raj808

We're thrilled you enjoyed our collaboration!

Thank you very much @soyrosa! 😀 It was a great way to start and you and @raj808 had a huge part in it. I'm very glad you like the outcome!
It was a great experience, I enjoyed every minute and I'm fortunate to work with @futuremind!
I guess we're both looking forward to seeing your next project 😉

I love this idea, two different artists working together to delight us. The result is wonderful. A great photo and an amazing poem. Congratulations both!

Thank you very much Roxy, I'm very happy you like it :)
Get used to the idea because there's more to come!

You and futuremind are going to make more art together?

Do you know, I've listened to him talk for days about how much fun he had with you on this project? And I'm not so sure I can listen to another minute of his blabbering. I hope you will hurry up and put him to work so I can get some rest! I'm so excited to see what you two come up with next!
🌹

I'm glad your friend liked working on this project :) We're going to continue working on a new round 🙂

Looking forward to see what the next post will be about. 🙂

We're working on that, let's see when it will be ready :)

Thank you for your compliment on our project! @roxy-cat

It was a pleasure working with @erikah and we have already started discussing plans for future projects!

This was an amazing experience for me. We had so much fun! And it was also a challenge!

You are more than welcome. I'm looking forward to see what you two will come up with next.
Congratulations for the initiative, @erikah and @futuremind. 👍

I fully agree with you!
