Leaving a Mark
And half out
Trying on these Times
That never fit;
So many parts
Worn out—
Friends gone
So many splits,
Hope threadbare
Shiny
But glossy from wear;
The tailor retailored
From a different era.
…
We live in the same city
But don't see the same things—
You see buildings
And I see memories.
Times change
And styles too
It’s the fashion now
To discard worn shoes
No one to cobble
Or make repairs
Easier to trash
Until nothing is rare
...
No patina, no history,
No signs of wear
Nothing restored
Or treasured with care
Every thing recycled
Until the past disappears…
And no trace left
To show we were here.
Now this girl cobbles her boots. I wore the same boots for a couple decades until the leather gave out. I like the energy that well-loved items can contain. Loved this poem, John:)
Yes, the same reason I love antiques - they bend time and space into the shape of that era
Beautiful thought put together by you in even more beautiful words.
So much changes with time and yet I see that the world barely takes time to stop by and notice it.
Thanks, @hashcash - so true...
