The Moments Away

Grateful for the moments away

From human traffic

Realize I always say

I want to change my bad habits

Never really taking any action

Addicted more to devices

Never fixing the old ones

Just picking up new vices

Is this all life is?

Material needs and prices

Led by the weak

Imprisoned the strong and poisoned the wisest

Who’s bright idea was this?

Who let them in the garden?

If I offended any snakes

Then I beg your pardon

But the control is real we may not heal

Most minds have been domesticated

Freedom that's buried deep in thought

May never be excavated

No longer wanted to dig deep

When the control escalated

Programmed to sleep

While ownership by elites got debated

None of us were in that discussion

We did not scream to be heard

We didn’t fight loud enough

For them to understand our words

We didn’t unite combine to fight

The systems when they emerged

Is it too late to fight now

With our might and courage?

Free Verse Poems

A free verse poem is an open form of poetry that doesn't follow any particular pattern. It's free from musical patterns, metering patterns, or rhyme patterns and is an innovative way of expression. A poet can explore natural creative speech that can be written in the way any poet wishes their creative expression to be.

Some legendary free verse poets include Carl Sandburg, who wrote the classic poem "Fog". A short but with direct artistic wordplay. Another legendary and amazing poet who became the first person to become commercially famous for free verse poetry was Langston Hughes. His free verse poem "I, Too" was one of the mandatory poems I had to read and I understood the artistic expression from him in those times. This poem still strikes an emotion in American racism and was printed by the New York Times on September 22, 2016, in response to the riots in North Carolina the day before.

Influence for "The Moments Away"

I often listen to people speak about being clustered in the world of media and the big city life. They tell me how they lose a piece of themselves every day as they chase their material needs. At least they're aware of it as most people don't even know they're in the rat race. "The Moments Away" was a piece that was written thinking of their pain and frustration.
