Out swinging
Backed into a corner
For the thousandth time in life
The animal inside on a weak tether
Strife brings it out but it is rarely away
Heel I said, not Hell, stay.
Dropping to a knee
Surrender isn't an option this time
Hungry it is and awaits a taste
No matter how much there is a need
To rip and watch it all bleed.
The paint is an illusion
The cage that holds a fairytale
Raise the energy inside to break banks
The ranks march and they slowly file
Ended upon a crooked smile.
Muscles are tensed
Poised to spring at what approaches
Swaying head to strike
Upon the spike of a sharpened lance
At just another chance.
A long time passed
So many years it has laid dormant
The monster took the lead
Devouring all while the real starved
What was whole now halved.
The heavens that never were
Promises that could never be delivered
Understanding has been built now
Wishes of feeble mind washed undeserving
The path taken, unswerving.

I like how each verse buts the tension up. (least that's I how see it)Makes me want to know more about the monster. why it is where it is, and what or who tries to keep docile.

This was deep . Different paths in our life take us different places . Past becomes memories , the present is yet to heal

A very deep and nice poetry, dude... Good or bad memories of the past, get'halved', as you say, when time passes.. And we should let them go, and live in the present.
