MY CITY IS ART

Colours in my city,
Canvass stretchers, palettes splayed.
Pretty colours stain the sky;
Brushed reds, pink and orange for the
Fading day as the sun flees the night
Crawling with the purple evening's breeze.
Blood red stain the macadam streets
With glazed eyed bodies contorted in repose,
Finally pale with the freshness of death.
Brown dust on the sole of running feet
Pink with the scars of milky white stones
Tearing the beach kissing the blue green waves
That caress the slowly blackening horizon.

Black blue bruises on tame women
Fumbling words with tarnished lips
At black blue sirens stand bored and disinterested.
Hospital white gown and grey walls
Bleeding tears and regrets
As my city mourns; ashes to ashes
Dust to dust.
Guns poking fresh red lips
On purpling skin like kisses on roses
And ripe yellow spores floating
Through the silver dust motes and
The yellowing white light of fireflies
Dancing beneath silver stars
And the milky moon serenading the sleeping sea.

Yellow headlights catch paused strides
As the far echo of fiery bullets fade
Into the silence of screeching tires
Painting ash impressions on pale black paths.
My city is art as silver tears
Bleed the purple sky crumbling and parting
For silver flashes and pregnant clouds
Rumbling with murmurs of discontent.
Brown water flooding black gates
And white walls seep into silent rooms
Where two red eyes watch
The fumbling belt and the bruised ego,
Gray smoke curling from stained lips.

Colours tarnished with rust, brown and bronze
As old cars grow bouquet for birds to nest
And ants to forage.
Green grasses bend beneath restless feet
Of little boys running after leather balls
Stained with brown dust and mud,
Sweat and the glitter of old laughter
And adrenaline.
The colours of my city are pain
And memory, tears and fear.
The canvass stretched taut and colours
Splash across the face of my city.
She is beautiful, she is afraid,
She is broken, she is hopeful.
My city is alive, my city breathes,
My city is in me.
