TO LIVE AND LOVE
Look at them,
The faded flowers of mourning,
The dirge leaving their lips,
The sigh of silence fading into noise,
A wail, a groan, the shuddering sorrow
Of knowing eternal loss.
Why do they mourn, you ask?
Is not to die to be free?
But you see, love comes with bonds
That bind souls in joy and grief,
In heaven and in hell.
They must mourn love's leaving.
They must hunger for the return
Of warmth and feeling.
Look at them,
The struggling limbs of desperation
Propelling them ever forward
Towards glory, towards pain.
Their paths stay broken and crooked,
Their eyes stay fierce and determined.
Why do they fight, you ask?
Is not to surrender quite easy.
But their fighting is living,
And life beats in the blood
And fires dreams in the forges of hope.
To surrender is death and when we die,
People mourn our leaving.
Is to fight not to love?
Is to surrender not to mourn?
